Megabonk: AFK Gaming Challenge Guide
Once players complete a tier in Megabonk, they will be able to replay it and select challenges to put themselves to the test. One of the most interesting challenges in Forest Tier 1 is the AFK Gaming Challenge which dares players to survive until the final swarm without moving or jumping.
Besides not being able to move away from enemies’ sights, what makes Megabonk‘s AFK Gaming Challenge particularly difficult is the fact that players can’t move to interact with XP shards, chests, pots, and shrines, so it’ll be extremely hard to upgrade their character. However, little by little, they will be able to grab some XP and level up, and if they choose the right upgrades, they might just complete the challenge.
Best Builds For the AFK Gaming Challenge in Megabonk
Since players cannot move when doing the AFK Gaming Challenge, they will quickly find themselves surrounded by enemies coming from every direction. Additionally, they won’t get access to much XP since they cannot move to reach the shards, so they will mostly be stuck with their first weapon for some time.
For these reasons, players will have to take into consideration the strength and the default weapon of the character that they will select. Two characters have a clear advantage in the AFK Gaming Challenge, and that’s Megachad and Athena. On top of having access to particularly useful weapons at the start of the run, their RNG Blessings, which are unique to each character in Megabonk, come in quite handy.
Megachad/Aura – AFK Gaming Challenge Strategy
Megachad’s default weapon is Aura, which creates a protective field around him that is able to damage those who step inside. This makes it much easier for Megachad to survive the early game, when the weakest enemies appear. As if that wasn’t enough he can flex on enemies, which stops them from dealing any damage and stuns them.
Once players pick up their first XP shards, they shouldn’t invest in the Aura right away. They need to get an alternative weapon so they can deal more damage to approaching enemies or the Attraction Tome, so they’re able to grab XP shards that fall farther away from Megachad.
Gamers won’t want too many weapons here, as they need to invest in making the ones that they do have stronger to fight off stronger enemies when they begin to appear. The Knockback Tome and weapons that can push enemies farther away and back into Megachad’s Aura are key. The Tornado is a good secondary weapon, as it knocks back enemies. As they upgrade it, it will increase its size, number of projectiles, as well as its damage and knockback power.
Athena/Aegis – AFK Gaming Challenge Strategy
The Aegis, Athena’s default weapon, is a riskier choice, since enemies have to get up close and personal with this character for her to damage them. However, it makes it much easier to level up, as they will be killed close enough for her to grab the XP shards that they drop upon death.
This doesn’t have to necessarily be done with Athena, evne though the Aegis is her default character. However, she is the best character for it because her RNG Blessing grants her Thorns each time she levels up and also makes her deal more damage the lower her health is, making it easier to survive the early game if too many monster take a hit at her.
The Cooldown Tome and the Knockback Tome are good combinations with the Aegis, as they will push enemies and give her some time to recharge the shield-like weapon.
How to Beat the AFK Gaming Challenge in Megabonk
Tips & Tricks to Complete the AFK Gaming Challenge in Megabonk
The characters, weapons, and tomes mentioned above can make it easier for players to reach the final swarm, but that’s not all. There are other tips and tricks that will certainly help players survive the 10 minutes.
Become Familiar With the Level
In Forest, players will face an initial, slow-approaching horde, and the enemies can differ. Then, they’ll face a mini-boss followed by a swarm. Then, the enemies will start to pour in slowly. Lastly, a swarm will appear followed by another mini-boss.
It is important for players to know the timing of each attack, so it won’t take them by surprise. They should have weapons that are strong enough to take out a boss without being killed but should also be able to take enough monsters at once to avoid being overwhelmed by the swarms. Here is the exact timing of each attack in the Forest map:
- 7:00 – First mini-boss
- 6:00 – First swarm
- 3:00 – Second swarm
- 2:00 – Second mini-boss
- 0:00 – Final swarm
The hordes of monsters will differ, and the challenge can be significantly harder depending on the first enemies that appear. Skeletons, goblins, bees, and slimes are much easier to take out compared to the runners and th explosive monsters.
As for the bosses, they will have to face both the Stone Golem and Chunkham the Terrible – it is random which one will appear first. The Stone Golem will summon sharp rocks from the ground that will send the player flying while Chunkham will burst a ball of mud, slowing down players’ movements.
Purchase the Toggler
Once players purchase 40 unlocks in Megabonk, the Toggler will appear in the Shop. It costs 50 Silver but it can be quite helpful if players are trying to get specific items for a run. With the Toggler, players can visit the Unlocks screen and disable any weapon, tomes, and items that they have purchased.
This way, players can disable weapons and tomes that aren’t useful for AFK Gaming. Players won’t come by any items unless they’re lucky, but in case that happens, they’ll still want to disable items that aren’t helpful.
There is a chance that players might be able to reach a chest and open it. In this case, toggling off as many useless items (in this situation) as possible is extremely important, as it will increase their chances of receiving a useful item, and it might just be crucial in making it to the end of the run. There are two particular items that are game-changing for the AFK Gaming Challenge in Megabonk:
- Campfire – Standing heals the player
- Idle juice – The longer the player stands still, the more damage they will deal (up to +100 percent damage)
Get Banish, Skip, and Refresh Charges
Since it’s not possible to disable all weapons, tomes, and items with the Toggler, gamers will also want to invest in upgrade their charges for Banish, Skip, and Refresh. This way, when they’re given a choice between upgrades that they don’t want they can simply refresh them until they get a better choice, banish them if they’re totally useless, or skip.
For example, since the Agility Tome won’t help at all during this run since players have to remain still, gamers should consider banishing it. The same goes for any items that they might pick up or purchase (if they’re lucky enough to get close to a Moai Shrine or a chest) that won’t provide any advantages.
