How to Beat Horace in Borderlands 4 and Legendary Drops
Farming bosses is one of the best parts of Borderlands 4, and you can start farming for legendary weapons early with Horace. Encountered very early in the main story of Borderlands 4, Horace has a surprisingly stacked legendary loot pool for such an easy boss.
You’ll first meet Horace as you work with the Outbounders during the Fadefields quest chain in Borderlands 4 before moving on to other regions of Kairos. Getting up to him is a pain, but you can use a handy teleportation rift to reset the encounter once you’ve made it to the arena. Here’s everything you can get from farming Horace in Borderlands 4.
How to Beat Horace in Borderlands 4
Horace is found at the top of Horace’s Oversight, an Order stronghold in the Hungering Plain at the heart of the Fadefields. You’ll first encounter him during the “Down and Outbound” main story quest, but you can return to Horace’s Oversight and spend some cash at the Moxxi’s Big Encore machine for a rematch.
Horace begins the fight floating in the air, launching projectiles at you while summoning additional enemies on the ground to keep you distracted. His shield is weak to shock damage, so bring an elemental weapon.
Once Horace’s shield is depleted, he’ll fall to the ground. He’ll be stunned for a few seconds, giving you a chance to get some easy damage in. When he gets back on his feet, he’ll chase you around the arena with melee attacks. Just keep kiting him around and using your mobility to your advantage. Use a fire weapon to melt the rest of his health bar, then grab your loot.
There’s a red chest in the next room that you can grab on the way to the teleportation rift. It resets every single time you complete the Horace encounter.
All Horace Legendary Drops
Horace has three dedicated legendary drops in his loot pool.
Legendary |
Description |
---|---|
Aegon’s Dream Assault Rifle |
Prophetic: Fires both Fire and Cryo rounds. |
Pacemaker Repkit |
Pulsometer: Passively regenerates Health over time, increasing in Rate when your health is low. |
Lucky Clover Pistol |
Kismet: On Reload, fires 2 Homing Rockets. |
Of all these drops, Lucky Clover is the rarest. It’s also one of the strongest pistols in the game, so get ready to spend a lot of time with Horace if you want it for your Borderlands 4 build. The explosive Homing Rockets are a reference to Final Fantasy 14, with the pistol’s description reading “Such devastation… This was my intention,” which is a tweaked quote from one of the game’s main villains.
Aegon’s Dream is another strong weapon dropped by Horace, firing both Fire and Cryo rounds as a reference to Game of Thrones. It’s manufactured by Vladof and can roll with several different attachments and perks.
Finally, there’s the Pacemaker Repkit. This is a divisive legendary since it changes the way healing works entirely. It can still be used for a very small burst of healing in a pinch, but equipping the Pacemaker gives you passive health regeneration that never turns off. It’s a perfect fit for certain Borderlands 4 shotgun builds that require you to get up close and personal with bosses.
